Orlando International Airport Information

Orlando International Airport is 6 miles southeast of the fantastic Floridian city of Orlando, surrounded by some of the region’s many lakes and ponds and less than 20 miles from Walt Disney World. It is a focus airport for Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airways, and a major international gateway for Florida. The terminal building has a hub-and-spoke layout and is divided into Terminal A and Terminal B, and 4 airside areas. These serve over 17 million passengers each year.   Flights from Orlando International Airport reach a wide range of destinations. There are of course many domestic connections all over the United States and short hops within Florida on commuter lines such as Florida Express jet. There are plenty of destinations in neighbouring Canada and Central America, and Lufthansa flies direct to Frankfurt. More flights to European hubs are in the works for 2014. Customs and Security   International arrivals to Orlando International Airport will have to pass customs checks to ensure they are not bringing any restricted or prohibited items into the country. All items which are subject to restriction should be declared upon or before landing- these include alcohol, animal and plant products and medicines amongst others. Prohibited items include absinthe, cultural artifacts without a permit, drug paraphernalia, firearms without a permit, endangered animals and animal products, most meats, narcotics and copyright-infringing articles such as designer knock-offs.   Security procedures for departing passengers are carried out by the Travel Security Administration. These serve to ensure the safety of passengers by making sure no weapons or potential weapons are brought onboard any aircraft. Passengers are screened by imaging technology or metal detectors, and these can be refused in favour of a physical pat-down. Private areas are available for this. Luggage will be x-rayed to check for prohibited items. Any liquids, aerosols or gels in your carry-on should be packed in bottles or containers less than 100 millilitres, and collectively stored in a quart-sized clear ziploc bag.
